  Amal Jyothi students have yet again won    prizes   in the prestigious Innovation Hub National project contest held during December 4th to 7th at  INFOCOM - 2014 , held at  ITC Sonar,  Kolkata .  It is a matter of great pride for all of us that the prospective mechanical engineers have  won top prizes in Innovation Hub contest for the eighth consecutive year. proving once again that  ME department can bring more laurels to AJCE that will echo through the ages to come . Getting to Zero !

  World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988. Where did the idea come from? In 1991 – a decade after the emergence of HIV – a group of 12 artists gathered to discuss a new project for Visual Aids. They were photographers, painters, film makers and costume designers, and they sat around in the shared gallery space in New York's East Village. After a short brainstorm they had come up with a simple idea that later became one of the most recognised symbols of the decade - the red ribbon , worn to signify awareness and support for people living with HIV.  The artists were inspired by the yellow ribbons tied on trees to denote support for the US military fighting in the Gulf War. Congrats to the team comprising of Mr. Richu J. Babu,  Mr.  Philip Thomas,  Mr.  Sony Mathew,  Mr.  Sharon Rony Jacob of S3 ME-A Batch who secured 1st prize and a cash award of Six thousand Rupees, competing among 12 teams from various colleges for the paper presentation ( Blue Print ) at TATHVA '14 @NIT Calicut , on 1st November. This group of students also took part in the paper presentation @ MAC, Kothamangalam for the event titled THAKSHAK '14 on 19 September 2014 securing 3rd place competing against 15 teams bagging cash prizes. These students were guided on the topic  HUMAN HAIR RE-INFORCED COMPOSITES by   Mr.Jibin C. Jacob of Mechanical Engineering Department and Dr. Soney C. George from Department of Basic Science  opening new arenas in the field of bio inspired composites.

Blood Donation Drive and Donation Challenge

During the days of September 25th to 27th  the Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted its prestigious events like the Royal Blood Cell with its message "be a donor, be royal" and the i-RUN with its message "Protect Women, fight against rape" @ AJCE Campus.  During AZURE dedicated teams of Staff and Students coordinated the RBC and i-RUN despite the odds and showcased unity towards a common goal. The Royal Blood Cell had its functions inaugurated by Fr. Dr. Jose Kannampuzha on the 26th morning. The RBC has been active for the past 3 years helping people who are in need of blood donors for medical reasons. Under the RBC numerous blood drives along with awareness classes has been conducted. This time the  drive issued a challenge for other colleges as well as celebrities to donate their blood for this noble cause. i-RUN, the much acclaimed open marathon which was conducted separately for men and women received appreciation like never before. Five Faculty members from the department of Mechanical engineering participated in the Three day Workshop on “Advanced Materials and Modern Manufacturing Techniques”, (AMMMT-2014), conducted from 25th to 27th Sept. 2014 organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, Saintgits College of Engineering. Talk on Robotics-IE Initiative

IE student's chapter organised a technical talk on Robotics for the students of Mechanical Engineering Department throwing light on the topic  Future -Robotics, by  Sunil Paul , Asst Prof., Mechanical Engineering, Muthoot Institute of Technology & Science, Puthencruz.  In his talk he introduced the world of robotics to the students and motivated them to think keeping the future in mind.He  also predicted the advent of the age of robotics touching everyday lives slowly overtaking that of the presently ubiquitous mobile. While robots that can match human ingenuity is within the realm of the possible, it is more important to design machines which will automate processes and obey commands, including drones, with application in defense, media & entertainment, meteorology, logistics and law enforcement.  He talked and shared his understanding  of his assignments with the  DRDO, in the development of an all-weather drone and other exciting possibilities of Robotics in da

Inauguration of Association of Mechanical Engineering (AME) -   IGNITION   2014   by     Mr. P.S Suresh Kumar  - General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Kottayam  on  28th August  2014  (Thursday)  at   10.30 am  in the  College Auditorium .  Mr.P.Suresh Kumar talked  about  "Role of young Entrepreneurs in Indian Society"  in his inaugural address , he motivated the young folks to be challenging citizens rather than mere degree holders in the years to come. He also    motivated and  emphasized  the importance of grooming young individuals with entrepreneurial drive  and educated them on the industry trends in the era of globalization through  vibrant examples in daily events.

Micro-EDM drilling Presented by:  Mr. Mathew J Joseph ,  AP, ME Dept . Audience:  Staff members, Department of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Mathew J Joseph took a session on “ Micro EDM drilling ” based on his paper presented at the  International Conference on  Precision, Meso, Micro and Nano Engineering at NIT Calicut .  The  contents of the discussion were the following: • Introduction to the concept of Micro-EDM in comparison with the conventional EDM processes and their  advantages . • Tubular electrodes used in micro-EDM drilling • The main work discussed included the optimization of the process parameters in micro-EDM  drilling for improving MRR (material removal rate) and minimizing Over- cut. • The entire experimental procedure and the obtained results were discussed and the analysis  of the effect of the process parameters (voltage, capacitance, electrode feed rate and electrode  rotation speed) was done. The Mechanical Engineering department in association with the AJCE-ISTE chapter conducted a one-day seminar on “Recent trends in Nano Composites” on 15 th July 2014 for the students of Mechanical, Civil and Metallurgy Departments. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. K Padmanabhan, Asst. Director and Head, centre for excellence in Nano composites, VIT University. Rev. Fr. Dr. Jose Kannampuzha gave the presidential address. The seminar sessions were handled by Dr. K Padmanabhan and Dr. Soney C George.

Inauguration of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE)

The Dept. of Mechanical Engineering of Amal Jyothi College hosted the Association of Mechanical Engineering (AME) annual meet and the inauguration of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE) AJCE Student Chapter on 3 rd April 2014. Prof R.A.D Pillai, Former Deputy Director, VSSC and National Council member of IIIE inaugurated the IIIE chapter of AJCE. In his inaugural address he spoke about “New Industrial Engineer” Mr: A.G. Ajikrishnan, DGM- Technical, Wonderla Holidays Ltd. and General Secretary of IIIE, Kerala chapter, delivered the key note address. Principal Rev.Dr. Jose Kannampuzha gave the presidential address. Head of the department of Mechanical Engineering Dr.Jippu Jacob, Faculty members Prof K.P.Sundhareswaran, Prof.K.R.Arjun, Student representative of the association,  Mr.Chacko T Francis etc spoke on the occasion.  Association student secretary George Benedict presented the annual report of the association.

‘Eminent Engineer’-Jippu Jacob

Jippu Jacob, Head, Postgraduate Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally, was awarded the title ‘Eminent Engineer’ of the Institution of Engineers (India), at the function held in  Thiruvananthapuram during February 22-23, 2014.  Dr. Jiipu Jacob, who is a former Dean of the Kerala Agricultural University , received the honour from P. Rajendran, Vice Chancellor, Kerala Agricultural University, at the 27th National Convention of Agricultural Engineers in Thiruvananthapuram. The award was in recognition of four decades of eminent service and contributions in agricultural engineering, particularly in education and research. Dr.  Jippu Jacob has two patents to his credit.    He was felicitated by the college for the same by  K. C. Joseph  is the present minister  for Rural Development, Planning & Culture of the  Government of Kerala .
