Workshop on “Safety and Disaster Management”

Safety Club in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering has organized a Workshop on “Safety and Disaster Management” on 01/02/2020. The workshop was held at St.Alphonsa Hall (CC110) at 10.00 am. The workshop was handled by Fire & Rescue Office Team, Kanjirappally. The team has included Sri. Joseph Joseph, Fire Station Officer and five other officials. Around 125 first year B.Tech. students from both Mechanical and Electrical branches have attended the workshop. Both theory and practical sessions on safety were included in the workshop. The workshop delivered instructions on guidelines to identify hazards, report them, and deal with incidents. The workshop was also provided awareness to the students about how to save a life in real-time situation of any kind of danger or calamity that occurs with no advance or very little time. The appreciation certificate and memento has given to the resources persons. The feedback about the workshop was collected from the students. Prof. Binu Thomas, HOD, MED presided over the function and the workshop was coordinated by Dr. Joby George, Assistant Professor, MED and Sri. Jose Philip, Safety Officer.

The workshop aims to provide awareness and skills to students to perform their work in a way that is safe for them and their co-workers. The training will deliver instructions on guidelines to identify hazards, report them, and deal with incidents. Demo and practical sessions are arranged to the students about how to save life in real time situation of any kind of danger calamity that occurs with no advance or very little time. The program also aims to provide knowledge on immediate actions to be taken during the time of natural disasters. So this program will bring awareness among students about the safety in labs, workshops, homes and industries by preventing injuries, illness and fatalities and to provide guidance in the event of an accident, fire, natural disaster or another emergency. Basically the program will be instrumental in promoting safety awareness/culture among students.
