Safety Club in association with the Department of Mechanical Engineering has organized a Workshop on “Safety and Disaster Management” on 01/02/2020. The workshop was held at St.Alphonsa Hall (CC110) at 10.00 am. The workshop was handled by Fire & Rescue Office Team, Kanjirappally. The team has included Sri. Joseph Joseph, Fire Station Officer and five other officials. Around 125 first year B.Tech. students from both Mechanical and Electrical branches have attended the workshop. Both theory and practical sessions on safety were included in the workshop. The workshop delivered instructions on guidelines to identify hazards, report them, and deal with incidents. The workshop was also provided awareness to the students about how to save a life in real-time situation of any kind of danger or calamity that occurs with no advance or very little time. Department of Mechanical Engineering and Institution of Engineers (India) Students' Chapter organised a Technical talk on "Propulsion Through Ages " by Sri Jasperlal, VSSC Trivandrum on the 28th of March 2015. The talk threw light on a lot of things starting from the basics of Propulsion, he further explained the term propulsion being derived from two Latin words: pro meaning before or forwards and pellere meaning to drive. A variety of methods included under Propulsion were discussed like: Ground propulsion which includes any mechanism for propelling solid bodies along the ground, usually for the purposes of transportation. Marine propulsion - the mechanism or system used to generate thrust to move a ship or boat across water. Congrats to the team comprising of Mr. Richu J. Babu, Mr. Philip Thomas, Mr. Sony Mathew, Mr. Sharon Rony Jacob of S3 ME-A Batch who secured 1st prize and a cash award of Six thousand Rupees, competing among 12 teams from various colleges for the paper presentation ( Blue Print ) at TATHVA '14 @NIT Calicut , on 1st November. This group of students also took part in the paper presentation @ MAC, Kothamangalam for the event titled THAKSHAK '14 on 19 September 2014 securing 3rd place competing against 15 teams bagging cash prizes. These students were guided on the topic HUMAN HAIR RE-INFORCED COMPOSITES by Mr.Jibin C. Jacob of Mechanical Engineering Department and Dr. Soney C. George from Department of Basic Science opening new arenas in the field of bio inspired composites.
